Historic Reading Terminal Market Illuminated With Solais LED Lamps

Stamford, Connecticut – May 9, 2011 – Solais Lighting, Inc., the leading manufacturer of lightweight, specification-grade LED lamps with actively-cooled, Luxiance® thermal management technology, announced that the historic Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia was introduced to the latest LED lighting technology when key food merchants replaced their dated halogen lamps with energy-efficient Solais LED lamps.
The Reading Terminal Market has been a part of Philadelphia's history since 1893 and is known to those who visit this culinary bazaar as a city staple and a well-visited tourist destination. Over the years, the market has been reconstructed and transformed to accommodate new merchants and the growing demands of the city. Solais Lighting worked with vendors – including Beiler's Bakery, AJ Pickle Patch and Salads, and The Rib Stand – to perform a lighting upgrade that better directs customer attention to the food displays.
"We are pleased to have our energy-efficient LED lights in use at such a historic location," said James Leahy, president of Solais. "Our unmatched lumen output combined with superior optics produces impressive results for retail applications such as those at Reading Terminal Market."
Solais replaced 90-watt halogen lamps with high-output 21-watt, 1200-lumen LED lamps throughout the market – immediately offering significant cost and energy savings. By replacing the halogen lamps, the merchants will realize a combined savings in energy costs of $17,506 over the next three years.

"The customer experience is greatly enhanced from the minute visitors walk through the market doors and approach our food stands," said Alvin Beiler, owner of Beiler's Bakery and AJ Pickle Patch and Salads. "By replacing our old lamps with Solais LED lamps, we have noticed an immediate difference with how the light enhanced our food displays – often getting asked if we have recently renovated our stands. We are also very excited at the thousands of dollars we will be saving on our energy bills over the next few years," said Beiler.

Visitors are encouraged to drop by the Reading Terminal Market located at 12th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia to see the Solais LED lamps on display and to partake in the eclectic array of fresh-baked Amish goods or ethnic foods available from the more than 80 vendors at the market.
